Closetta's brand coverage roughly tripled mid-2026 — from 44-60 brands tracked per month (January-April) to 164-173 brands per month (May onward) — so this update reports what the fuller dataset shows for June, July, and August, rather than re-running the original analysis on the same small brand set.
This is a follow-up to our 5 Months of Canadian Fashion Price Tracking report, which covered January through May with a narrower brand set. Read that first for the original category-by-category findings (fast fashion, accessible luxury, outerwear, sportswear, footwear) — this post picks up where it left off.
The Coverage Change, Honestly
| Month | Observations | On Sale | Rate | Brands Tracked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | 366 | 154 | 42% | 60 |
| February 2026 | 1,170 | 429 | 37% | 50 |
| March 2026 | 1,006 | 330 | 33% | 44 |
| April 2026 | 1,186 | 364 | 31% | 46 |
| May 2026 | 2,133 | 794 | 37% | 173 |
| June 2026 | 4,891 | 1,940 | 40% | 172 |
| July 2026 | 4,983 | 2,224 | 45% | 167 |
| August 2026 (through 23rd) | 3,336 | 1,226 | 37% | 164 |
The jump from 46 to 173 brands tracked between April and May is Closetta expanding its own monitoring — not a sudden wave of new brands launching sales. Any month-to-month comparison across that boundary should account for the much larger, more diverse brand set from May onward.
What the Expanded Data Shows (May-August)
With the fuller brand set in place, the overall on-sale rate held in a fairly narrow band — 37% to 45% — across May through August. July stands out as the highest of the four months at 45%, consistent with mid-summer clearance activity clearing space for fall inventory. August, still incomplete as of this report, sits back down at 37%.
What Didn't Change
The original report's core finding — that fast fashion brands discount frequently but not always deeply, while luxury brands rarely discount at all — continues to hold in the expanded dataset. See the luxury brands roundup and the which fashion category discounts most post for the category-level breakdown using the full current dataset.
Using This Data
The Closetta trends dashboard shows this data visually, updated daily, and the API returns it as structured JSON. If you're tracking a specific brand's timing, the individual brand sale guides linked throughout this site use the same underlying data.
FAQ
How many brands does Closetta track now compared to earlier in 2026?
Closetta tracked roughly 44-60 brands per month from January through April 2026, then expanded to 164-173 brands per month from May onward. That's a real change in Closetta's own coverage, not a shift in how many brands started running sales.
What was the overall on-sale rate for July and August 2026?
In July 2026, 45% of Closetta's 4,983 tracked observations showed an active discount — the highest monthly rate since the coverage expansion. August 2026 (through the 23rd) came in lower, at 37% of 3,336 observations.
Does the original 'March is the real sale month' finding still hold?
The original 5-month report (January-May) found March had the highest average discount depth. This follow-up doesn't re-test that specific claim with the expanded brand set, but July 2026 shows the highest on-sale frequency (45%) of any month in the full January-August dataset.
